AITEO Cup: Antelopes Gallop to Twelfth Final
Rangers International FC galloped into their twelfth Nigerian Cup final on Wednesday after an exciting comeback against Nasarawa United. Their eleventh final was eleven years ago where they lost 3-2 via penalties to Dolphins FC (now Rivers United). Down by 2-0, the Flying Antelopes scored four goals to see of the Solid Miners 4-2 in Kano.
With more final appearance than any other team in the history of the Cup, Rangers will hope to extend their unbeaten run to the final. Rangers have won five cup titles, two short of defunct Lagos Railways with seven titles. Rangers knocked out defending champions Akwa United, in the quarterfinals.
In the other semi-final at the Agege Stadium, Junior Lokosa and Nzube Anaezemba had given Kano Pillars a 2-0 lead before Timothy Danladi and Chinedu Ajana scored in the space of 10 minutes for Katsina United to set up a penalty shootout. Kano Pillars won 4-1 on penalties to reach their second semi-final in history.
Kano Pillars had earlier on defeated Enyimba 4-2 in the quarterfinals in Gombe. The Peoples Elephant who lost 1-0 to Raja Casablanca in Aba in their CAF Confederation Cup first leg semi-final a week ago, couldn’t outscore a more rested Kano Pillars side.
The final is scheduled for October 24, 2018 in Asaba while the Women’s final will hold a day earlier in Yenegoa.
